Our three internationally accredited programmes in Futures Studies — a Postgraduate Diploma, MPhil and PhD — will provide you with the knowledge and skills to create a better future by equipping you with innovative and long-range decision-making skills to mitigate risks and to identify opportunities. Foresight, futurology, futurism, or more generally, “ futures studies ” is a mature intellectual discipline which explores how organizations can look at uncertainty, risk, and opportunity in a way that produces more value that just marching forward with yesterday’s assumptions. The nature of decision-making using the results of futures studies can be approached from four alternative perspectives: 1. Values perspective categorises forecasted outcome of events and occurrences as good or bad. 2. Rational perspective relates to selection of an alternative amongst decision

What is Futures Studies? Futures Studies is a scientific research field involving scholars and researchers across many disciplines. There are undergraduate and post graduate programs available in universities around the world. You will notice that we use the plural term "futures" and you may wonder why we use this and not the singular term: "future"? Rather, futures studies methods are generally designed to help people better understand future possibilities in order to make better decisions today. Futurists often say they use their methods to reduce uncertainty, although it may be more accurate to say they are trying to manage uncertainty. Foresight, futurology, futurism, or more generally, “ futures studies ” is a mature intellectual discipline which explores how organizations can look at uncertainty, risk, and opportunity in a way that produces more value that just marching forward with yesterday’s assumptions. Thus, one of the main tasks of futures studies is to identify and examine the major alternative futures that exist at any given time and place. IB. "The future" cannot be "predicted," but "preferred futures" can and should be envisioned, invented, implemented, continuously evaluated, revised, and re-envisioned.
